Collection of Planks
The things that the paintings from the series Collection of Planks have in common are the surfaces and shapes of a built up or civilizational nature. They are for most part constructed environments, not taken directly from reality, but an expression for conceptual spatiality. In these paintings, I want to express spatiality rather than depict it.
Collection of Planks are works made on found planks and pieces of wood. These are often rough sawn, unplaned planks with uneven edges. Sometimes these irregularities are left as they are and sometimes I saw the sides in such angles that the shape of the plank itself becomes part of the composition which often contains stylized or abstract streets with storefronts, awnings and facades. My intention is that the composition and the way the geometrical shapes are placed, will invite the viewer for a “visual walk”, always looking for new angles and connections between the shapes.
