Amir Taba
Patterned by Amir Taba is an interpretation of dynamic identities, exploring various levels of complexity. The artwork presents a central figure depicted twice: once front-facing, as if seen in a mirror, and again in profile, representing an angle often invisible to oneself but evident to others.
The front-facing figure, adorned with floral decorations on the face and hands, symbolizes the decorated self presented in public. These patterns allude to makeup and hairstyles—elements shaped by both external expectations and internal choices.
In contrast, the undecorated profile figure offers an external perspective, reflecting how others may perceive the individual. This vision suggests a ‘truer’ version of the self, one that is more authentic yet often hidden from personal awareness. By juxtaposing these two aspects, Taba encourages viewers to reflect on the tension between self-perception and external perception.
