After finishing a series of Complexity paintings in 2002, I began a series of black-and-white line drawings of mechanical objects but had pushed my distortion technique to the brink. I began to allow the lines to overlap, opening up the process of composition. I began to twist the object (a microscope) as I drew distorted versions of its contours, offering the viewer an all-around perspective. Various materials on the object were signified by unique colours, and the drawings became paintings. I incorporated complex colour blending systems into this series – different colour themes represented respective overlapping elements.

This painting, Slowly you return to life took nearly two years to complete. What one sees or doesn’t see in these paintings is irrelevant; it’s the complex interactions on multiple levels at the same time that make these works visually stimulating. The final work in this series was completed in 2009.
