Magic cups, Teaparty series, 2020-2024
Freeblown and sculpted glass

This series consists of unique sculptures inspired by the scene with the Mad Hatters Tea Party in the Alice In Wonderland movie. I fell in love with the uncertainty of their reality. When you pour the tea into the cup, there is no bottom in the cup and liquid just runs through. Things are upside down and twisted, and working in a way they shouldn’t really work.

Thinking about those surprise moments made me want to capture that same feeling in glass, so I started making cups with multiple handles. Some of them were upside down with the bottom at the place of the opening. Some had a plate attached to a cup so when you lift it up the plate follows, confusing the viewer and leaving them feeling like an amused question mark themselves.
