Artworks
Johnathan Daily Swedish-American , b. 1974
In 2010, building on techniques such as impasto backgrounds and multiple washes developed in Shifted/Blended, the artist began working on a larger scale, weaving abstract linework into otherwise atmospheric paintings. This was, in essence, drawing with paint — lines layered across shifting fields — while also opening space for experimentation with unconventional tools, such as scraping with a rubber spatula.
The resulting works are highly abstract, their imagery suggestive yet eluding direct identification, like fragments of form held just beyond recognition. They stand as a linear counterpart to the Corporeal series, where atmosphere and gesture merge into a language of subtle allusions.
