I know a Place

Sprigs of greenery and flowers sit atop a windswept autumn scene, set within a frame reminiscent of a sticker. Throughout Mauritzson’s oeuvre, she employs this collage-like approach to building her scenes, allowing different elements to resonate within the same pictorial space. Imagination and nature merge into a shared, symbiotic landscape. A bee moves through the sky, a pink grasshopper climbs among the greenery, and a cauliflower rests beside a bed of flowers where two rats roam. The vitality of the plants and animals captures a sense of nature as something unruly and alive — abundant, shifting, and ultimately beyond control. The liveliness of the plants and animals evokes a sense of nature as something generous and untamed, unfolding on its own terms.

________
