Room With a View

Mauritzson incorporates both her own dogs and imagined animals into her paintings, placing them within the domestic interior as close companions. Often described as “man’s best friend,” the dog appears as part of the family, associated with loyalty, care, and the idea of something lasting. This sense of permanence is quietly questioned. Rather than suggesting a broken promise, the work reflects how time itself unsettles the notion of “forever.” Bonds with animals are shaped by closeness and devotion, yet remain vulnerable to change and loss. Historical references, such as the Ionic column placed at the center of the room, interrupt the domestic scene, allowing different temporal layers act within the same space.
