Anna Bergman Jurell works in ceramics and will exhibit a few of her heads in earthenware. With a background as a costume designer for theatre, Anna approaches her sculptures in the same way one creates a costume — building a character, where often a small accessory becomes a vital detail.
“I like it when the clay is as soft as it can be without becoming sticky and clinging to my hands. I soak it and work in stages. I shape something rough from a sticky, gooey lump that’s then left to settle for a few days — after that, I can start sculpting.”
Anna’s ceramic heads will be displayed outside the south wing.
