Tartu, 4 September 2026 — On Friday, 4 September at 5 p.m., painter Siiri Jüris will open her solo exhibition like an echo in the dark, warm twilight in the Large Gallery of Tartu Art House. The exhibition is curated by Peeter Talvistu. The exhibition brings together a selection of paintings produced by Jüris in Sweden over the past five years, providing an overview of the latest developments in her artistic practice.
Jüris describes herself as a landscape painter, and landscapes are a consistent presence in her work. At the same time, the landscapes are characterised by an inherent amorphousness that makes it difficult to determine clear boundaries between different elements within them. People and hands are also central elements in the paintings. They provide a point of contact between the viewer and what is depicted, while the motif of hands introduces themes of care and support. These themes are considered both in relation to individuals and to the preservation of the natural environment. Curator Peeter Talvistu emphasises the importance of assistance, encouragement and interdependence in human life, as well as the impossibility of completely separating ourselves from the natural environment. The exhibition is characterised by deep, warm tones that create a soft and velvety atmosphere in the gallery.
Siiri Jüris (b. 1992) is an Estonian painter currently living in Sweden. She graduated from Tartu Art School and the Department of Painting at the University of Tartu, where she completed both her BA and MA studies, and subsequently obtained a master's degree from the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm. Her work is represented by Tütar Gallery in Estonia and Galleri Duerr in Sweden.
In 2021, Jüris received the Tartu Art Museum's “Young Tartu” exhibition award. In 2024, she received the "Young Artist Encouragement Award" at the annual exhibition of Tartu art. She last exhibited at Tartu Art House in 2022, as part of a group exhibition with Triin Marts and Tim Høibjerg.
The exhibition's graphic design is by Ott Metusala. The exhibition is supported by the Cultural Endowment of Estonia, Tütar Gallery, Galleri Duerr and the Municipality of Uppsala.
