Malin Pierre. Swedish visual artist Malin Pierre creates organic glass sculptures inspired by haute couture and the interplay between softness and hardness. Driven by an intense curiosity for materials—their surfaces, weights, and textures—Pierre works in an impulsive and exploratory manner. She is fascinated by how different materials appear and behave, particularly in their transition from soft to hard. Her abstract shapes and structures carry the tactile qualities of soft textiles, and her originals are often made from fabric. Through this approach, Pierre’s glass sculptures evoke the expression of sewing, tailoring, and voluminous upholstery. Her work embodies the inherent contradictions of a medium that is neither fully liquid nor fully solid: an amorphous material that exists somewhere between two states of matter.
Pierre has a background as a scenographer and worked as a freelancer in television, film, and commercials for approximately 15 years before dedicating herself to her art full-time. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in 2021 and her Master’s in 2023 at the Department of Ceramics and Glass at Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design. Born in 1977, she is based in Stockholm.
