These extraordinary musicians will play the music from Joanne Grüne-Yanoff’s short film "The Cassandra Cycle: Memory" (music composed by Andy Akiho).
The music and film will be presented at the gallery at 15:30, followed by a talk with the artist, gallerist Deborah Duerr, and curator-in-training Linnéa Österberg.
MALIN BROMAN is a sought-after artistic leader, soloist, and chamber musician. Born in Sweden, she completed her studies in London under David Takeno. She is a passionate chamber musician and, over the past twenty years, has toured extensively and made recordings with the Kungsbacka Piano Trio, Stockholm Syndrome Ensemble, and Nash Ensemble of London. Malin has been the concertmaster of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra since 2008. She has performed Brahms’ Double Concerto with Steven Isserlis under the direction of Daniel Harding, received excellent reviews for her recording of Nielsen’s violin concerto, and premiered violin concertos composed for her by Helen Grime, Daniel Börtz, Britta Byström, Andrea Tarrodi, Daniel Nelson, and Jesper Nordin. She regularly leads the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra as a musical director/soloist, collaborating with the Tapiola Sinfonietta, the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, ACO Collective (Australia), the Nordic Chamber Orchestra, and the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra, working with artists such as Pekka Kuussisto, Janine Jansen, and Peter Mattei.
Malin currently serves as the artistic director of the Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra in Finland, succeeding Sakari Oramo. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Malin recorded a film of Mendelssohn’s octet, in which she played all eight parts herself. This recording quickly gained widespread attention on YouTube. In 2019, Malin was awarded the H.M. King’s Medal for her contributions to Swedish music. She plays a Stradivarius violin from 1709, on loan from the Järnåker Foundation.
SIMON CRAWFORD-PHILLIPS has built a unique career as a pianist, conductor, and creative programmer. He has held positions as Chief Conductor of Västerås Sinfonietta and Conductor Fellow of the NDR Elbphilharmonie and recently made a critically acclaimed debut with the Stockholm Royal Opera. Other upcoming debuts include the Helsinki Philharmonic, Swedish Chamber Orchestra, and Scottish Chamber Orchestra. As pianist in the Kungsbacka Piano Trio, Nash Ensemble, and Stockholm Syndrome Ensemble he has performed worldwide and made several recordings for BIS, Hyperion, and Deutsche Grammophon. His piano duo with Philip Moore has been a special collaboration for over 20 years most recently resulting in a broadcast recital from LSO St.Luke’s and a recording of Schubert and Kurtag. He has held teaching positions at the Royal Academy of Music, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and was recently awarded a Professorship at the Mälardalen University in Västerås.
